Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been hospitalized after testing positive for coronavirus, consistent with his official Twitter account.
The 77-year-old actor tweeted on Saturday, “I have tested CoviD positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff have undergone tests, results awaited ..All that is in close proximity to me within the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!”
A living legend in Hindi-language cinema, Bachchan has made quite 180 films during a career spanning five decades. Hailed by many as India’s greatest living actor, he’s revered in his home nation.
Bachchan starred in his first film in 1969. Since then, he has dominated the silver screen for nearly half a century — most of India’s 70 years as an independent nation.

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, one among the foremost influential actors within the history of Indian cinema, has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati hospital.
His son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, whose Amazon Original series “Breathe: Into the Shadows” bowed on Prime on Friday, has also tested positive.
“I have tested CoviD positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests, results awaited ..,” Bachchan tweeted Saturday evening. “All that is in close proximity to me within the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested !”

Abhishek Bachchan tested positive for COVID-19
“Earlier today both my father and that I tested positive for COVID 19. Both folks having mild symptoms are admitting to the hospital. we’ve informed all the specified authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to remain calm and not panic. Thank you,” Abhishek tweeted.
Other members of Bachchan’s household include his wife, the renowned actress Jaya Bachchan, and equally renowned daughter-in-law, actress Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.
Bachchan’s last film “Gulabo Sitabo,” bypassed cinemas and bowed directly on Amazon Prime in June. As cinemas across India remain shuttered thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
The news prompted an instantaneous wave of support from the Indian movie industry. Sound engineer Resul Pookutty, Oscar winner for “Slumdog Millionaire,” tweeted: “That’s how a responsible citizen behaves… Sir, all our prayers to urge well soon…”
Actors wishing Bachchan a speedy recovery included Mahesh Babu, Dhanush, Sonam K. Ahuja, Mammootty, Sarath Kumar, and Bipasha Basu.
Bachchan may be a giant of the Indian movie industry, headlining influential films like “Sholay,” “Deewar,” “Don” and “Amar Akbar Anthony,” among many others during a five-decade-long career. He had a cameo in Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby,” and has hosted several editions of “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”
With 850,000 positive cases, India is now the third-highest coronavirus affected country within the world, after the U.S. and Brazil. There are 22,687 deaths thus far, consistent with official figures.
