CeCe Moore, who was born in 1969 in Southern California to Janis Proctor and Anthony Michael Moore, wanted to be an actress before becoming involved in genealogy. Erin Huffer, Ann Gingrich, and Anthony Moore Jr. are Moore’s siblings.
Her father worked for JC Penney in management until he and Janis founded Earl Labs Hearing Aid Centers in 1988, which they ran until 2005 when they retired.
She studied at the University of Southern California (USC), and she studied theatre, vocal performance, and film on a full academic scholarship.
CeCe’s career began in 2000 when she began studying her family tree as a hobby. CeCe became one of the self-taught scientists who helped people find their immediate relatives via DNA in 2010, as DNA technology advanced. CeCe’s journey to becoming a licensed genetic genealogist began with this case.
She began teaching and presenting genetic genealogy around the country in 2010 after starting her blog, Your Genetic Genealogist. In 2013, it attracted the attention of author and historian Dr. Henry Louis Gates.
Her appearance on the PBS show was made possible by the Harvard professor. She also started a Facebook group called DNA Detectives in 2015, which has a large following.
Moore received the break she had been waiting for in April of 2018. The California police discovered that they had used publicly available DNA profiles compiled by genealogy enthusiasts on a self-service website. It assisted them in apprehending the Golden State Killer, a serial rapist, and murderer who operated in the 1970s.
