Following that, he blended acting and directing responsibilities. Mario’s breakthrough came three years later, when he directed the African-American gangster film New Jack City. Together with Wesley Snipes and Ice-T, he played the lead part in the picture. The picture became one of the most successful in 1991 as a result of his remarkable effort, grossing over $47 million in the United States alone. He directed Gabriel’s Fire and A Triumph of the Heart: The Story of Ricky Bell in the same year.
