Journey of Life

Wes wanted to enter the US Navy after graduating from high school, and during his service, he was stationed on the flight deck of the USS Essex, where he served as an aviation firefighter in the crash and salvage department for four years before being given the opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

In 2007, director Paul Haggis cast Wes Chatham in the role of Corporal Steve Penning in the crime thriller mystery film “In the Valley of Elah,” alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, and Susan Sarandon.

Wes was cast as Frank Benedict in the George W. Bush biographical film “W.” two years later, and in 2010 he was given a recurring role in the widely successful CBS television series “The Unit,” playing the newly embraced unit team member Sam “Whiplash” McBride.

He starred in two major budget films in 2011, first in the horror film “Husk” as Brian, and then in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful period drama film “The Help,” in which he played Emma Stone’s character’s younger brother; the film received several awards, including a 2012 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Chatham’s popularity and reputation grew, and in 2012, he landed his first leading role as Dillion McGwire in Joel Silver’s dramatic action film “The Philly Kid.”

Following that, Wes appeared in guest roles on television shows such as “The Mentalist,” “Political Animals,” and “Armed Response,” as well as films such as “This Thing with Sarah” and “The Town That Dreaded Sundown,” before landing the role of Castor in the blockbusters “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and “- Part 2.”
