Matt Keough, a former All-Star pitcher, baseball executive, and guest star on the truth television program Real Housewives of Orange County, has died. He was 64 and no explanation for death was provided.

The right-handed, mustachioed Keough pitched in 170 games for the Oakland A’s from 1977 to 1983, earning an All-Star game appearance as a rookie in 1978 and therefore the AL’s comeback player of the year award in 1980. He later hung out with the Yankees, Cardinals, Cubs, and Astros, also like the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese league.

Keough appeared twice on the Bravo reality show, which featured his ex-wife Jeana Keough and their children, Kara, Shane, and Colton.
Kara Keough, who is married to former NFL player Kyle Bosworth, posted on Instagram. She lost a baby son in April.

As an A’s executive, Keough appeared several times in Michael Lewis’s best-selling book “Moneyball,” which examined how the underfunded A’s consistently outperformed wealthier teams.

“Matt was an excellent ballplayer and a proud Oakland Athlete. He had a fantastic passion and that we were lucky to possess him and his vast knowledge with us during his years as a special assistant, ” recalled Billy Beane, executive vice-chairman of operations for the A’s.

Keough belongs to a baseball family. Matt’s father, Marty, played 11 big-league seasons from 1956-66 and his Stilwell played six years within the show from 1968-73. Both were outfielders. Shane Keough, Matt’s son, played minor-league ball with the A’s from 2007-10. He was also an outfielder. Shane shared the subsequent post on Instagram:

Matt Keough was an American League All-Star as a rookie in 1978, and later was the AL Comeback Player of the Year in 1980. Overall, he was 58-84 with a 4.17 ERA with Oakland (1977-83), the NY Yankees (1983), St. Louis (1985), Chicago Cubs (1986), and Houston (1986), then went 45-44 with a 3/73 ERA in Japan with Hanshin (1987-90).
