Vasudev rode up Chamundi Hill and sat on a rock on 23 September 1982 at the age of 25. There, he had a spiritual experience. Soon, he left his business to his friend and traveled extensively.

Later, he decided to teach yoga to share his inner experience. In addition, he conducted his first yoga class in 1983. Soon, he began conducting yoga classes across Karnataka and Hyderabad.

Furthermore, in 1992, Vasudev established a non-profit and non-religious organization called Isha Foundation. Additionally, he also founded the Isha Yoga Center near Coimbatore in 1993. Apart from his work in Yoga, Vasudev is also a successful author.

His writings include ‘Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy’, ‘Adiyogi: The Source of Yoga’, ‘Three Truths of Well Being’ and ‘Pebbles of Wisdom’.

In 1994, he conducted the first program on the premises of the newly established Yoga Center called the Dhyanalinga. After years of work, it was completed in 1999.

Moreover, he designed the 112-foot Adiyogi Shiva statue located at the Isha Yoga Center. It was inaugurated on the occasion of Mahashivaratri on 24 February 2017, by Narendra Modi.

The Isha Vidhya under the Isha Foundation aims to raise the level of education and improve literacy in rural India. Additionally, he is also the founder of Project GreenHands. It is an initiative that aims to increase the green cover in Tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, he has participated in global and economic forums. Recently, in 2017, he spoke at the Global Landscapes Forum in Bonn, Germany.
