Professional Life and Career

William started to play hockey from an early age. In 2009, he played Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers minor ice hockey team.

On 14 February 2013, Nylander made his Allsvenskan debut by playing alongside his father Michael Nylander with Sodertalje SK.

In 2014, he got draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year contract with Toronto Maple Leafs. On 29 February 2016, he made his NHL debut at the age of 19 and scored his 1st goal against Senators Andre Hammond. After showing the outstanding performance in his Toronto career, he was re-signed by the Leafs for six years.

International Career

Despite holding Canadian nationality, on 12 November 2012, the International Ice Hockey Federation(IIHF) allowed William to represent Sweden in international play.

He went to represent Sweden at the 2013 world U-17 Hockey Challenge and helped his team to win a gold medal. Moreover, he made his senior team debut at the 2017 IIHF World Championship, where team Sweden won gold.
